Tangshan Branch of China Coal Research Institute (Tangshan Branch, CCRI) was initially founded in 1956 and is a large-scale comprehensive research unit dedicated to the study and development of coal industry in China. It is currently staffed with a workforce of nearly 600, out of whom, 115-more are professors and senior engineers, 53 enjoy the special state subsidies. Over 50 years since the founding of the Tangshan Branch, CCRI, a total of 700-more research-derived achievements have been obtained, out of which, about 190 won the state or provincial or ministerial-level awards for scientific and technological progress, 90 were granted state authorized patents and 70 state or coal industrial standards were formulated. Subordinated to the Tangshan Branch, CCRI are a dozen of industrial entities, including the Market Development Centre, Science and Technology Development Centre, Coal Preparation Equipment Centre, Design Engineering Centre, Automation Engineering Centre, Mine Surveying Centre, Coalmine Safety Evaluating Centre，Production and Development Centre, Pump Centre, Dafang Electronic Technology Development Company etc., and some holding subsidiaries like Tangshan Dafang Huizhong Instrument Co., Ltd., Tangshan Guoxuan Clean Coal Co., Ltd., Tangshan Anping Mining Technology Co., Ltd., etc. In addition, many national organizations with respect to quality control, scientific research, academy and information etc. are nominally established in the Tangshan Branch, CCRI, such as the China National Coal Preparation Machinery Quality Supervision and Testing Centre, Tangshan Coalmine Pump Testing and Inspection Centre of China National Work Safety, Tangshan Coalmine Specific Products Quality Supervision and Testing Centre, Storage and Transportation Technology Research Institute of China National Coal-Water Slurry Engineering Technology Research Centre, Coal Cleaning and Processing Department of Clean Coal Engineering Technology Research Centre of Coal Industry, Coal Industry Energy-Saving Technology Service Station of “A” Grade, Coal Preparation Branch of China National Coal Standardization Technical Committee, Central Information Stations of Coal Preparation and Mine Surveying of Coal Industry, Coal Preparation and Hydro-mining as well as Mine Surveying Specialized Committees of China Coal Association, Editorial Departments of “Coal Preparation Technology”, “Mine Surveying” and “Hydraulic Coal Mining & Pipeline Transportation” etc. The Tangshan Branch, CCRI is a unit allowed to enroll those who study for master’s degree in ore processing engineering, has many professional credentials, such as engineering consultation, construction project contract, engineering design of “A” grade, “A” grade qualification of risk evaluation of geological hazard, “B” grade Certificate of Surveying and Mapping Qualification, coalmine safety evaluation certificate, qualification of approval of coalmines’ production capacity and import & export management right, and in 2003 it obtained the ISO9001 Quality System Certificate and was rated as “Contract-abiding and Trustworthy Enterprise” by the Hebei Provincial Government.

The Tangshan Branch, CCRI is provided with one pipeline transportation centre which is up to the internationally advanced level and also the largest of its kind in Asia, one coal preparation machinery and mechanism laboratory which is approved by the State Approval Committee, and a dozen of laboratories specifically for electrical engineering, hydraulic machinery, industrial pumps and slurry pumps, flowmeters, mine surveying instruments and rock mechanics, as well as a pilot coal cleaning plant etc. The scientific and technological industry of the Tangshan Branch, CCRI is capable of providing packaged coal preparation equipment and new equipment and materials with nearly one hundred types and hundreds of specifications in regard of hydraulic coal mining, industrial pumps, slurry pumps, explosion-proof mine surveying instruments, flowmeters, automation instruments, stainless steel screen mesh, wear-resistant materials etc., which enjoy brisk sales on the markets in 20 more provinces, cities and autonomous regions, find successful and widespread applications in coal, metallurgy, power, light, crude oil, urban construction and environmental protection industries etc. and are well received by vast number of users. Therefore in recent years, the Tangshan Branch, CCRI is successively rated as one of the first-batch top ten coal preparation equipment manufacturers in China and outstanding enterprise in national coal machinery industry by the China Coal Industry Association and China Coal Machinery Association respectively.

Currently, a perfect industry chain has been created from technical innovation, project design, turnkey contract, technical service and product manufacture to management and production of the coal preparation plants in the Tangshan Branch, CCRI. The Tangshan Branch, CCRI is up to internationally advanced level in such technical fields as clean coal technology, coal preparation, hydraulic coal mining, industrial pumps, mine surveying and coal mining beneath buildings, railways and water bodies, which can be said to be one of units most influential in China Coal Industry and also leading scientific research institute as well as a base of technical innovation in China Coal Industry.

In July 1999, the Tangshan Branch, CCRI shifted its system together with the CCRI to become a science & technology-oriented enterprise directly under the Central Enterprise Working Committee, and in April 2000, the Tangshan Branch of Tiandi Science & Technology Co., Ltd. (Tangshan Branch, TSTC) was established by Tangshan Branch, CCRI through pooling up its workforce specialized in coal preparation and related spheres. The headquarters of the company became listed at Shanghai Stock Exchange in May, 2002. As the first listed hi-tech company among its counterparts in China’s coal industry, Tangshan Branch, TSTC is engaged in integrated business including technical innovation, R & D, technical service, engineering design, turnkey contract and equipment manufacturing towards markets both at home and abroad, and becomes gradually a large-scale innovation-oriented enterprise.
